FAQ

How Long and How Frequent Are Sessions?

Appointments are typically once a week for 50 minutes, though some people opt for more frequency or longer sessions. I do not schedule appointments with less frequency than weekly.

Where Are Sessions Held?

I am currently conducting psychotherapy and consultation sessions via telehealth. All sessions are held online on a HIPPA-compliant, secure video platform. State licensure laws dictate that I am able to provide psychotherapy only to residents of California.

Are Pro Bono and Lower Fee Appointments Available?

I have a limited number of pro bono and lower fee appointments available. My practice prioritizes those appointments for lower income QTBIPOC and HIV+ people. For more information, see my Fees page.

What Is the Cancellation Policy?

If you must cancel an appointment, please notify me at least 48 hours in advance or you will be charged for the missed appointment. If you cancel in less than 48 hours and we are able to reschedule your session that same week, there is no charge for the cancellation. If we are unable reschedule your session, you are responsible for payment for the missed appointment.

Will My Insurance Pay for Psychotherapy Sessions?

Some plans will reimburse for psychotherapy with a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), so you may want to check to see if you have coverage for individual psychotherapy with an MFT of your choice. I am happy to prepare a monthly statement for you to submit to your insurance company. However, some insurance reimbursement processes require sharing private information with several people, thus compromising your confidentiality. Feel free to discuss the pros and cons of using insurance with me if you are considering this choice.

What Is a Marriage and Family Therapist?

Details about the licensure requirements and scope of practice of MFTs can be found at California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

How Can I Check a License Status?

To check the license status of any MFT, you can go to the website for the Board of Behavioral Sciences, a California consumer protection agency that governs MFTs and Licensed Clinical Social Workers.
